Abstract On 8 September 2009, we received an appeal from Prof. Peter A. DAVIES of the University of Dundee claiming the paper entitled, A Review of Potential Vorticity and Its Possible Application in the Moist Atmospheric Flow, that was published by Peter A. DAVIES and Aijun DENG in the January 2009 issue of Atmospheric and Oceanic
Science Letters (AOSL), shows him as the first author but he has no connection with this paper, the subject of the paper, or the co-author of the paper. He concluded therefore that another person has used his name and affiliation to publish an article in AOSL, without his knowledge.
Having scrutinized all the related material and communications, we found that Prof. DAVIES’s appeal is valid. The editorial office only received the copyright agreement with the second author (Dr. DENG)’s signature on it, not having Prof. DAVIES’s. The editorial office urged to publish the issue and decided to publish the paper, without Prof. DAVIES’s signature. This is definitely a serious mistake.
In order to uphold the highest ethical standard in our research community, we hereby announce that the paper entitled A Review of Potential Vorticity and Its Possible Application in the Moist Atmospheric Flow, that was authored by Peter A. DAVIES and Aijun DENG, be retracted from Vol. 2, No. 1, January 2009 of AOSL on page number 24 to 28. This paper will not be considered as a published paper in AOSL, and it will not appear in any future reference or record. The editorial office is sincerely sorry for any damage to Prof. DAVIES and his scientific credibility this matter may have caused.
